Comprehensive Network Expertise for Your Communications Projects

Structured Backbone Cabling

Backbone cabling systems provide connections between telecom rooms, equipment rooms, and entrance facilities. The backbone consists of backbone cables, intermediate and main cross-connects, mechanical terminations, patch cords used for backbone-to-backbone cross-connections. The backbone also extends between buildings in a campus setting. This cabling handles the major network traffic and should be device independant.

Structured Horizontal Cabling

Horizontal wiring can be IW (inside wiring) or Plenum Cabling and connects telecommunications rooms to individual outlets or work areas on the floor, usually through the wireways, conduits or ceiling spaces of each floor. The horizontal cabling is typically connected into patch panels and switches/hubs in telecommunications rooms or enclosures on one end and follows a star topology terminating at wall outlets on the other end.
